French translation and interpretation
In French a translator is called un traducteur, a translation is une traduction and the verb to translate is traduire. As with many abbreviations the term CAT (Computer assisted translation) is reversed and is TAO (Traduction assisté par ordinateur).
A translator-interpreter is called un traducteur-interprète.
An officially recognized translator is called un traducteur assermenté, you will require the services of such a person when translating anything official or important.
